Final-Round Relief

It’s been a seemingly endless campaign…and the debates have seemingly been endless.  As I stock up on dramamine and rolaids from watching the stock market swings…I am one of those very much looking forward to tonight’s final presidential debate.  The race has been grueling and riveting!  The stakes have never been higher.  The times have never been more critical.  For those reasons many people can’t turn it off…the non-stop, 24-hour cable coverage, the rambling and ranting on radio, the newspaper analyses…the magazine cover stories.  I haven’t been so sleep deprived since my early 20s when I only needed a few hours of sleep to refill the tank.   Tonight…some 40 debates later, I will close my eyes relieved that after tonight, I don’t have to watch another one.  Although the polled numbers of the “still-undecideds” would lend credence to the argument that the dozens of debates we’ve endured have been valuable to voters evaluating this race,  polls also show the undeniable, uncontested signs of voter fatigue.  If this campaign were a movie…it would get “6″ stars for drama, intrigue, storyline, sound effects and screen play.  However, thankfully, the curtain falls tonight….on this phase, at least.  Then it’s “on with the REAL show”…the election….followed by the incredibly tough task facing whoever wins this maddening marathon!!!  —Pat Muse
